Thank you for your interest in Blue Horizon Lodge. We are the only lodge
in the world dedicated to Fly-fishing for permit; they are our #1 species. Last year we
landed 123 permit for 71 anglers, the year before we landed 170 permit for 91 anglers. We
invented the flies and techniques to land this most difficult fish of all on a fly.
| Blue Horizon Lodge particulars: Blue Horizon Lodge is a small operation taking 6
anglers maximum, per week. The lodge is located in the heart of permit country on
Northeast Caye, which is one the the islands in the Pelican Range, 18 miles Southeast of
Dangriga, a small sleepy village. ( Map of Belize )The lodge/camp
at present features 3 private cabanas, each with its own shower and bathroom. A generator
supplies electricity. The food is a combination of traditional Belizean dishes and fresh
seafood. Fresh vegetables and fruit are incorporated in meals, as Dangriga is in the heart
of Belizes agricultural region. Plenty of cold Belikin beer is always available as
well as soft drinks and fruit juice. Blue Horizon Lodge is rustic, but the permit fishing
is as good as it gets. The fishing program: Blue Horizon Lodge is unique, in that it has
been designed around the seasoned angler who is serious about catching permit on the fly.
Through years of trial and error, we have developed and mastered permit-fishing techniques
that consistently produce. This fact coupled with the lodges geographical location make
Blue Horizon Lodge one of the best destinations available to get honest shots at permit on
the fly. |

Anglers can expect to get numerous
realistic shots at permit on a daily basis. Something unique to Blue Horizons
fishing program, and in contrast to traditional permit fishing, is spotting permit from
the skiff, then stealthily slipping into the water, wading to within casting distance for
optimal position, then casting to tailing fish. This type of fishing will blow your mind.
There is no set fishing schedules at Blue Horizon Lodge; long fishing days are the norm.
We fish by the tides, not the cook.
A few resident schools of bonefish will keep things interesting and one the best tarpon
fishing locals in this area is a ten minute boat ride from the lodge. Barracuda, jacks and
snapper are abundant. No long boat rides are encountered at Blue Horizon, the lodge sits
virtually in the middle of 100s of flats. The lodge uses 3 panga-type skiffs,
complete with casting platforms, each with plenty of horsepower to scoot anglers between
fishing grounds. Most fishing at Blue Horizon Lodge is done the way it should be, on foot,
over grand flats that are solid and easily waded.
The accommodations are rustic with a no
frill approach, but you will find you host and staff eager to please, ensuring a
delightful trip. Our travel coordinator, Margie, at Belize Airport can also arrange tours
for sightseeing, Mayan Ruins, Belize Zoo, and the Jaguar Preserve. Her phone number is
